Winter Fun In Morden

Councillor Heather Francis with husband James and son Gideon.

Did you know there are 2 outdoor rinks at Morden Park, one skating oval and one flat surface for hockey as well as one flat surface rectangle at Lions Park?

“We thought it was important to have a skating oval as well as the rectangles. Often with the rectangle surfaces people will play hockey or be shooting a puck around. The oval will appeal to the person that just wants to skate,” said Gerry Leiding – Facilities Manager.

“We tried to have outdoor ice surfaces last winter, but the weather was very challenging. The maintenance crew spends considerable time trying to prepare a fun and safe environment for the public’s use. Unfortunately we’re at the mercy of Mother Nature. So far this year things have been more consistent, which is certainly helping . Outdoor skating is a fun way to stay active and enjoy the fresh air,” said Clare Agnew – Director of Community Services.

Morden Park is a great place for the children to enjoy winter, with the different skating opportunities, a snow hill for climbing and sledding, plus the washroom facility that is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
