Mayor Doug Wilson

His Worship Mayor Douglas Wilson was born on May 8th, 1961 in Toronto, Ontario and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  He was the fifth of six children.  He graduated from Red River College in 1980 and then studied music at Grant MacEwan College, Edmonton, Alberta.

Mayor Wilson enjoys playing the alto saxophone, snowboarding in the winter, golfing in the summer, as well as working on his historic fieldstone home in downtown Morden.

Having moved to Morden in 1999, he commuted to Winnipeg for two years while establishing roots in Morden, by working in the retail, wholesale and construction industries.

Mayor Wilson was elected on October 25th, 2006 and is serving his first term as Mayor.  He enjoys a challenge, and looks forward to all the future challenges of a growing and vibrant Town of Morden.

Mayor Wilson is committed to a responsible, accountable Town government that will work in partnership with the community.  Accessibility and approachability are very important to him.  He believes that by working together we can achieve goals that benefit the whole community.

Alex and Cheryl moved to Morden in 2000. Alex was Community Manager of Southern Manitoba CIBC. His career spanned thirty-eight years.

When he received early retirement in 2002, he was encouraged to seek a position on Council. He was successful, and in 2006 was re-elected for a second term.

He and Cheryl both enjoy Morden very much and have decided to make it their retirement home.

They are both very busy in the community and Alex's portfolios include President of Pembina Valley Development Corps.; Chair of MSTW Planning District; and Chair of the Finance & Administration Committee for the Town.

They have a daughter and three grand daughters in Brandon; and a son, daughter-in-law, and new grandson in Cumming, Georgia, USA.

"Morden has so much to offer. It's a great place to work and live, but we must continue to work hard to ensure future growth and continued prosperity" said Deputy Mayor Alex Fedorchuk .

Councillor Irvin Wiebe

Irvin grew up on a farm at LaRiviere, and has lived and worked in Morden for over 30 years. He is married to Annemarie and has two grown boys, both married and working in Winnipeg.

Irvin is retired after having worked as a Regional Farm Management Specialist in the area of finance, business organization, and estate planning. He has been involved with providing leadership to numerous organizations including church boards, post secondary education, health care and the financial services sector. He has been on the Board of the Agassiz Credit Union for nine years and was president of the Board for a time. He was also chairman of the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation for ten years.

"I believe that the greatest strength that I bring to Council is that of exercising good judgment, using common sense and making informed business decisions," said Councillor Irvin Wiebe.

Councillor Maurice Butler

Entering his second term as a Councillor, Maurice feels confident and motivated to continue his work on community issues. This term he will assume the role as Chairman of Community Services. As part of this committee, he will also serve as chairman of the South Central Regional Library Board.

A retired Police Officer, Maurice and his wife Linda, have resided in Morden for the past 29 years. They have two grown children, daughter Claire lives in Morden and son Jason lives in Stoughton, Saskatchewan.

As a committed community volunteer, he has served on numerous Corn & Apple Committees and both he and wife Linda continue to emcee the annual "Miss Corn & Apple Pageant".

Maurice has been an active member of the local Legion Branch for the past 27 years, serving on numerous committees. He is currently the Branch Past President.

A transplanted "Brit" Maurice now boasts that he has lived in Morden longer than he lived in England. "Morden is certainly the place to call home and a community that I am proud of and committed to work hard for," said Councillor Maurice Butler.

Councillor Wayne Hosea

Wayne is a lifelong resident of Morden. He is married to Darlene and they have two grown children.

Wayne was formerly employed by Manitoba Department of Highways. He is a life member of the Morden Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion having served as the past President and Zone 43 Commander. Wayne is a willing volunteer and has served on many local committees and boards.

"Our community has many assets and the growth potential is tremendous. We are a safe community with good police and fire departments," said Councillor Wayne Hosea.

Councillor Ronald Laverty

Ron and Vicki Laverty came to Morden in 1974. They planned to stay a year or two but never found a better place than Morden. Their hobby seems to be building houses - seven of them. They didn't move away, they just moved around!

Ron first came to Morden as a Recreation Consultant with the government. For 20 years he was a Child/Adolescent Mental Health Therapist working for the Central Regional Health Authority. Ron has served on many committees and was honoured to receive Morden's 120th Anniversary Volunteer Award.

Ron helped establish the "Morden Area Foundation". This organization has a pool of money donated by citizens of Morden for the betterment of the community. He asks that people who love Morden consider using the Foundation as a way to 'give back' to the community for all it has given you.

Councillor Brian Hildebrand

Brian and Norma Hildebrand are lifelong residents of the Morden area, moving from the farm into town in 2005. They have two grown children, a daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter live near Lorette and a son lives in Winnipeg.

Brian works as an Inside Sales Representative for Buhler Manufacturing in Morden.
He has served this community for the past 11 years as a school trustee with Western School Division. Presently, he is Chairperson for the Board of Gateway Resources. .

"I believe Morden has an incredible amount of potential for growth in all areas. An excellent foundation for achieving success has been laid. We must continue to build upon these initiatives in order to make Morden an even more inviting community to visit, work, live, and raise a family in," said Councillor Brian Hildebrand.

Lincoln Neufeld

Youth Member on Council - Lincoln Neufeld

Town Council was pleased to welcome Lincoln Neufeld as the new Youth Member at his first Council Meeting on September 24th, 2007.

Lincoln is a 17-year-old student at Morden Collegiate Institute. The Neufeld family of six moved to Morden from Schanzenfeld in September of 2006. His father Lyle Neufeld is the Pastor of the Ambassador Baptist Church. His mother Helen home schooled Lincoln through to Grade 10. Since moving to Morden, Lincoln has been enrolled at Morden Collegiate. After graduating he hopes to join the RCMP to get some practical knowledge of the law and then plans to go to University to study law.

Lincoln's duties will be to represent the youth of Morden by attending all Council Meetings from September 24th, 2007 to August 31, 2008.
