“In 1941 the H.M.C.S. Morden was commissioned to fight Nazi Germany in the Atlantic Ocean. This Flower class ship was instrumental in defeating one of the greatest racial and ethnic atrocities in the history of humanity. We are proud that our city was tied to this success.

Today the bell and wheel from the H.M.C.S. Morden hangs proudly in the Morden Civic Centre. We want to continue the legacy of this ship in defeating racism and hatred, by inviting new citizens of Canada and residents of Morden to come and ring the bell with the mayor as a symbol of our commitment to their wellbeing, and acceptance into our community.

The bell will first toll for new Canadian citizen Lili Krushel on April 3, 2019 at 11:30am. We are inviting you to come partake in this event, and we hope that this becomes a meaningful tradition which emphasizes our commitment to our new country-folk and deservedly carries on the noble legacy of the H.M.C.S. Morden.

We believe this story in the context of our region and current global political climate is extremely important – doubly so considering the success of our Immigration Initiative in the Provincial Nominee Program.”

I hope to see you there!
