Olympic Torch Relay 2010

WITH GLOWING HEARTS – OLYMPIC HISTORY

The Olympic Flame has a sacred history and symbolizes the principles of peace, brotherhood and friendship. The torch relay arrives in Morden on January 7, 2010, at approximately 2:50 pm  It will be part of a convoy of vehicles, including torchbearer shuttles, media vehicles, relay support vehicles and police cruisers.  Please be aware of traffic barricades along the parade route.

Temporary rolling road closures will ensure the safety of the torchbearers and the spectators lining the relay route. The crowd will see a new torchbearer carry the flame every 300 meters as it travels through the community on its 45,000-kilometre-long journey across Canada — the longest domestic torch relay in Olympic history.

The 106-day Olympic Torch Relay will visit every province and territory and stop in more than 1,030 communities and places of interest. On February 12, 2010, the Olympic Flame will make its way to downtown Vancouver to light the Olympic Cauldron.  This magical and awe-inspiring moment signaling the kick off to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games will be seen by a television audience of three billion people worldwide.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay provides an incredible opportunity to unify not only our community but all Canadians, and generates tremendous pride in our country as we celebrate the arrival of the Games.

The organizing committee has been working on events to celebrate the Olympic Torch arrival in Morden. The torch itself will be in Morden for a short period of time as it makes a loop around our community and continues on to the next. The activities will last the day, but the memories a life time!

The torch will be going from Greece to Victoria B.C. – then making its way across Canada, touching the most Northern and Southern tips and both coasts. It will be stopping in towns and cities along the way, showcasing Canada’s geographic and cultural diversity.
