Snow Removal

Winter is a beautiful time of year in Morden, but we can get a lot of snow! It is important to understand how you can help with snow removal. The Town of Morden Public Works Department tries to have the whole Town cleared in a day. To do this they need your help.

OVERNIGHT PARKING BAN - Please do not park on the streets. This will assist in the snow clearing operation. If you do park on the street you may get a parking ticket OR your car will be buried in snow. Each year the "Overnight Parking Ban" takes effect on the first snowfall and everyone is asked not to park on the streets between the hours of 12:00 Midnight and 8:00 AM.

You may not push snow onto the newly cleared street. This will cause obstructions and make it hard for vehicles to travel

If you have questions or concerns about snow removal issues you can call the hot line at the Public Works Office at 822-5119.

Snow Removal- What is the Procedure?

Everyone seems to want to know when their section of Town will be cleared. There is a basic procedure that the team follows;

  1. Main thoroughfares are cleared first, such as Stephen Street, North & South Railway, Downtown business section and main collector streets such as Wardrop Street, and Gilmour Street. The Provincial Highways department clears Thornhill Street and Mountain Street. (#432)
  2. North South streets are then done starting from the east and southeast ends of town. Public Works strive to open the streets in the most time efficient manner possible. This may mean that some areas seem to be left unopened when the street adjacent is open, however, this is not the case.
  3. Main school sidewalks are done immediately after street plowing.
  4. Windrowing and hauling of business sections are done after initial plowing has been done.
  5. Fire hydrants are cleared later as time permits.

After plowing is done salt sand is applied on all intersections. Clean-up of cul-de-sacs, intersections and other areas are done as time permits. Patience by all is appreciated.
