Landfill - SWAMP Information
The regional landfill site (SWAMP) is aimed at providing an environmental way of dealing with the waste from the entire region. Where possible, we encourage residents to practice 3R waste reduction, and to participate in recycling and composting programs in our communities. Watch for notices in the newspaper for the Household Hazardous Waste Depot collection days. The Swamp is located 4 miles North of PTH 14 on 428, 2 miles East, 3/4 mile North.

New WRARS Levy
As of January 1st, 2010 all rates include a $10.00 per tonne WRARS levy which SWAMP submits to the Province. WRARS = Waste Reduction and Recycling Support) The Province then rebates most of this money (80%) to communities which have recycling programs and the rest is used for hazardous waste programs, ewaste programs and for general promotion of recycling programs.
Tips
- There will be limited recycling drop off at the SWAMP site. Please continue to participate in the curbside Recycling Program.
- Uncovered loads will have a surcharge of $50.00.
Guidlines
- No Hazardous Wastes will be accepted at SWAMP
- No Vehicles, dead livestock, contaminated soil, or clean cardboard will be accepted
- There will be a $17.00 charge for appliances with CFC
- All vehicles must be properly secured and covered when transporting waste to SWAMP. Uncovered loads will have a surcharge of $50.00
Be sure all waste is properly bagged when you drop it off.
