Hospital Services

The Boundary Trails Health Centre is a 94 bed acute care regional facility. Services included are Home Care, Public Health, Mental Health, Emergency, Ambulatory Care Clinics, Intensive Care, Observation, Diagnostics, Laboratory, Medical, Surgery, Day Surgery, Obstetrics, Chemotherapy, Dialysis, Rehab/Assess and Rehab Services OT/PT, Speech and Audiology. It is located at the Junction of Highways #3 & #14 between Morden and Winkler.

Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Service is open 24 hours a day and should only be used in emergencies. Ambulance service IS NOT covered by the government and will cost you more than $200. An ambulance should be called in life-threatening situations. Dial 911 if there is an emergency.

If you need to see a Doctor quickly, you can go to the community clinic, Agassiz Medical Centre, located at 115-30 Stephen Street, or call 822-4474 to see if there are any appointments open for the day. You can also go to the After Hours Clinic at the Agassiz Medical Centre, open from Monday to Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If not, go to the emergency room at Boundary Trails Health Centre. Whenever you go to a clinic or emergency room you will be asked for your Manitoba Health Number.

This following aerial photo shows the Boundary Trail Place, which is a “Medical Mall” for many services such as medical, massage therapy, eye care, chiropractics, fitness, physiotherapy, adult education, immigration etc.

Family Doctors

Residents are able to see their family doctor for general health problems or for regular check-ups by visiting the new Agassiz Medical Center, which can accommodate up to 16 doctors and is located at the Boundary Trails Place. Appointments are necessary to see a family doctor or a specialist. If you have health records from your country or province, bring them with you to show to your new doctor. This is especially important if you or your family requires immunizations or special treatment.

Chiropractors

Chiropractors provide care for musculo-skeletal ailments; acute and chronic conditions that include back and neck pain, headaches, sports and workplace injuries and motor vehicle accidents.

Chiropractic Treatment in Manitoba is partially covered by Manitoba Health Insurance. Chiropractors charge a fee for the portion not covered by medicare. Autopac(MPI), Workers Compensation Board and Department of Veterans Affairs all cover 100% of the cost of chiropractic treatments and do not require a referral from a medical doctor. Many employers in the area provide their employees with additional health care plans. These plans also cover chiropractic treatments.

Dentists

Dental care is not covered under Manitoba Health Insurance. The cost of dental care is usually covered through reasonable payments by the patient or through privately purchased dental insurance. Some jobs offer package benefit plans for their employees.

Eye Care

Eye Care is not covered under Manitoba Health Insurance. You have to pay all costs for eyeglasses, contact lenses and eye-care. If you are less than 19 or over 65 years old you can receive one free eye examination each year.

Medication and Prescriptions

There are many different kinds of medicines that you can buy at a Drug Store (Pharmacy). Some medication can only be obtained by prescription while others can be bought over the counter. Medication is not covered by Manitoba Health Insurance. If you are unsure which medicine to buy, you can ask the pharmacist. Check with the pharmacist regarding PharmaCare assistance (government assistance based on income and amount of medication used.)

Drinking Water

Town tap water is regulated to meet health standards for drinking. Rural properties should not be sold without drinking water that passes government standards. If you are considering buying a property that is not connected to town or municipal water be sure to inquire about the water and find out if it passes government standards. Bottled water is found at most grocery stores in Morden.
