The Morden Tree Lighting Committee is pleased to report that the event held on Friday November 15th was a great success with larger numbers attending than previous years. We estimate there was a crowd of 1,000 people. The weather was an important factor which allowed everyone to enjoy the Hot Chocolate & S’mores while standing around the fire. One good way of gauging the attendance each year is the number of Santa Photos. This year 155 photos were taken. In previous years the average was 70. All these photos will be processed online by November 22nd. The link to the photos is http://personalexpressions.zenfolio.com/santa2013 . Participants find their photo, right click on it and then click Buy. The photos are free.
This year the Christmas Coffee House was back and it too was a great success with almost 200 people attending.
This event was made possible with the generous support of the following organizations:
• Personal Expressions
• Giant Tiger
• City of Morden
• Thornview Grocery
• Morden Fire Service
• Eagleye Printing & Design
• Chicken Chef
• Coffee Culture
• Homestead South
• Maverick 105
There are many others behind the scenes that help make things come together. The Civic Centre staff decorate the entrance and the Council Chambers, Access Event Centre staff deliver the picnic tables and bins, Public Works staff supply the barricades, the Fire Service takes care of the fires and the fireworks and the 55+ Activity Centre organizes the Coffee House. Of course there is also the Christmas decorations throughout the City that have been installed to shine brightly on the night and through the Holiday Season. Decorations are installed by Public Works, Parks Department and One Two Tree Service. Thank you to everyone who helped.
Merry Christmas to all from the Morden Tree Lighting Committee: James Steedsman, Phil Granda, Carol Wilkinson, Kathy Fehr.
