ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge
The City of Morden is participating in ParticipACTION’s Community Better Challenge. This is an annual event that aims to get neighbourhoods across the country moving together and increasing physical activity minutes.
The challenge runs between May 31st and June 16th and gives Morden the chance to win $150,000 to go toward physical activity improvements if it’s crowned as Canada’s Most Active Community! In addition to the national winner, there will also be finalists recognized from all regions of Canada who will be awarded $20,000.
How do you track minutes?
- Track active minutes through the ParticipACTION app
- Minutes are automatically counted toward Morden’s community score according to postal codes. The more you track, the greater chance we have of winning. You also have the chance to win great prizes for yourself when you use the app.
- Track minutes online by signing up at community.participaction.com/signup
- Submit your minutes with a form at the Access Event Centre during office hours (8:30-4:30pm)
- Any kind of physical activity can be included in your minutes. Some examples include: walking, running, sports, gardening, housecleaning, etc.
The City of Morden would like to encourage everyone to participate! So, be sure to get moving and track your physical activity minutes. Everything gets better when you get active!
Stephanie Dueck, Rec Programmer for City of Morden added her encouragement,
“ParticipACTION says it right when they say everything gets better when you get active. Part of my job is to help provide opportunities for people to get active. We have lots of drop in sport programs that continue to run in the summer. (Details at mordenmb.com/sports). Whether you participate in our programs or go for regular walks or runs on your own, we’d love for you to track your minutes in this challenge!”
Brent Gouthro, Nurse Practitioner at Agassiz Medical encourages involvement in both the ParticipACTION challenge, and in their current challenge to walk across the USA with community accumulated steps.
“Agassiz Medical Centre is committed to encouraging people to achieve their full health potential. As health care professionals we realize the important link with physical activity on both an individual and a community’s health. We hope to continue offering various challenges in the coming months and beyond. Engaging individuals to participate ripples to the larger community making us all better for it.” – Brent Gouthro RN NP

ParticipACTION’s mission is to help Canadians become more regularly physically active and reconnect with each other while doing so. They know that physical activity has the power to break down walls and build stronger communities. Getting active boosts the confidence and happiness of individuals, while connecting them to others with common interests. Simply put, physical activity brings people together.
