Property Taxes

Each year City Council goes through a lengthy process of finalizing the budget for the next year. Once completed the Financial Report is presented to the public at a Council Meeting – usually in early April. This is when the mill rates for the next year are announced.  The mill rates combined with the assessment value of your property are used in determining the amount of tax you will owe.  The current year mill rate and budget figures are listed below.  Visit the Questions & Answers page for more information.

Payment of Tax Bills

  1. Taxes are due and payable by AUGUST 28th, 2017, and if not paid by this date are subject to a penalty of 1.25% per month, added on the 1st day of each month until paid. PAYMENTS MUST BE IN THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE BY AUGUST 28th, 2017 – 4:30 PM.
  2. If you have constructed a taxable building, or made major alterations or additions, a supplementary tax notice will be mailed to you at a later date.
  3. PAYMENT OPTIONS:
    • In person by cash, cheque or Interac. Credit Cards are NOT accepted.
    • Post-dated cheques are acceptable. Please make cheque payable to the “City of Morden.”
    • Mail, Drop off mail box located at the front entrance of the Civic Centre.
    • Tele-Banking and internet banking. Please keep in mind a delay may occur from when you make your electronic payment to when we receive it. Transactions must be made by August 28th, 2017 to ensure payments are received on time.
    • Pre-authorized withdrawal – applications are available at the Civic Centre Office.
  4. Arrears shown are as of December 31st, 2016 are subject to a penalty of 1.25% per month beginning January 1, 2018, until paid.
  5. If you have any questions on the education taxes portion of your property tax statement, please call the Western School Division office at 204-822-4448.

By-law No. 1-2011 Waste & Disposal and Recycling Services $115.00
By-law No. 5-97 Tipping Fee (Spec Tax) $26.00 are additional levies for collection and disposal of solid waste and recycling for properties covered by the City Contract.
